Prime Minister Narendra Modi revised the solar installed capacity target 5 times in June 2015. The new target raises the Indian photovoltaic industry target from 20,000MW to 100,000MW in 2022. Southern countries are in a leading position in the field of solar energy, but the largest electricity-consuming countries Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh are relatively lagging behind. The southern states are particularly prominent in photovoltaic performance, but the largest electricity consumption in the two provinces-Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh lags behind other countries. Ensuring the robustness of the grid and the appetite for investments/loans at aggressive tariff levels are the two main challenges facing the Indian solar market. Policy interventions to address these challenges and demand growth measures will be the key to sustainable growth in the sector. Policy intervention to respond to market challenges through policy intervention and demand growth strategies will be the key to sustaining the growth of the photovoltaic industry.
